WASHINGTON - Influencer Katie Feeney recently announced a new position as a White House social media correspondent. The news came on November 28th, the same day she started her job at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. Chief White House Correspondent Emily Barkann said in a statement that, “[she is] ecstatic to begin working with Katie. [Katie] has clearly shown ample promise for a flourishing career in broadcasting and I cannot wait to help her grow and watch all of her future successes!” A spokesperson for Barkann also mentioned that Feeney’s appointment to the White House Division was in the works for a few months and was a tightly guarded secret prior to her first day.

Feeney, 20, is already a success in her own right. The Penn State University sophomore is pretty much a household name. Feeney has amassed a following of over 12 million people across her social media accounts. She is a successful influencer and has become a pioneer in the social media industry where she has been able to create a sustaining career that is putting her through college. Feeney’s ultimate goal is to become a broadcast journalist and the position on the White House team is just another stop in her already successful career which included making history in April of 2022 when the Washington Commanders announced that Feeney would become the NFL’s first-ever social media correspondent.

Feeney’s primary job as part of the White House Division will be to “[broaden] the reporting of the White House via social media platforms as well as detailed coverage of White House events.” The statement went on to include information on how Feeney will help combat the spread of “fake news” on social media by saying “Feeney will also be responsible for bringing an inside look into the White House to a new demographic in the hopes to curb the spread of inaccurate facts on social media.”

Feeney’s first day at the White House was a packed day on November 28th where she covered the First Lady’s 2022 White House holiday decorations in addition to getting acclimated to her new office. She posted multiple short-form videos of her first day at the White House on TikTok and Instagram’s reels where she gave her followers for a first glimpse into what the holiday decorations looked like.

Though Feeney is new to the world of political journalism, she says that she is “ecstatic” to begin working and continuing her broadcast career at the White House.
