BOSTON - President Biden traveled to Boston, Massachusetts on Friday to meet with Great Britain's Prince William of Wales at the John F. Kennedy Memorial Library and Museum ahead of the Prince’s 2022 Earthshot Prize gala.

President Biden and the Prince of Wales shook hands and exchanged greetings as they met each other for the second time this year and for the fourth time in the last two years. Biden met with Prince William at the Queen’s funeral in September. The two spent time remembering fond memories of the Queen in the cold air of Boston. Prince William expressed his joy in the warm reception he received from Bostonians in the short time they were there. He also discussed the finalists for the Earthshot Prize and how they will impact the climate crisis. Speaking with pride, Prince William emphasized how amazing last year’s winners were doing including the Great Barrier Bubble.

The pair took a quick stroll along the Boston Harbor before going inside the library for a private meeting with Biden exclaiming “What a spectacular view!” In that meeting, they discussed climate goals and mental health issues. The meeting itself lasted about 30 minutes. President Biden also planned to introduce the prince to his administration's Cancer Moonshot initiative in hopes of cutting the death toll of the disease in half.

Prince William was celebrating his last day of his Boston trip by getting a tour of the Kennedy Library from Caroline Kennedy, the daughter of the late president and attending his Earthshot Prize Awards Ceremony along with the Princess of Wales. The Earthshot Prize is a 1-million-dollar prize that goes towards expanding and developing the winner’s environmental strategy. Some of the strategies and projects include a new sustainable leather option and packaging made from seaweed. Prince William said that he created this award because of John F. Kennedy’s beliefs “that seemingly impossible goals are within reach if we only harness the limitless power of innovation, human ingenuity, and urgent optimism.”  The prize will be handed out to 5 individuals every year for the next decade in hopes of creating many new strategies to stop the climate crisis.

This was the first time Prince William and Kate Middleton had been to the United States since 2014, when they visited New York City.

President Biden was in Boston for a phone bank being hosted at the University of Massachusetts Boston to support Georgia senate candidate Ralph Warnock but he also has a very busy schedule this weekend. Biden hosted his first state dinner with President Macron of France yesterday at the White House with star-studded guests and will be attending the Kennedy Center Honors in Washington, DC on Sunday.
