2026 Easter Address by Andrew McKeough

McKeough Family Residence, Wayne, Pennsylvania

To all those celebrating, both near and far: Happy Easter!

As we gather today with family, friends, and our communities, we are greeted by the familiar signs of spring. The earth is waking up, the frost is thawing, and the vibrant colors of life are returning. It is a season that naturally points our hearts toward the promise of renewal.

Yet, as we observe this day of celebration, we must also acknowledge the stark realities of the world around us.

We gather at a time when the shadows of conflict and division loom large. Across the globe, there are places where the dawn does not bring the sound of birdsong, but the echoes of war. There are families facing unthinkable loss, communities torn apart by violence, and a pervasive anxiety that darkens our collective spirit. It is easy, in the face of such overwhelming strife, to feel that the winter of our world is unending.

But it is precisely in these moments of profound darkness that the message of Easter becomes most vital.

Easter is not a denial of the world's suffering; it is a direct answer to it. The story at the heart of this holiday begins in grief, loss, and the despair of a sealed tomb. But it does not end there. It ends with the stone rolled away. It ends with the ultimate triumph of light over darkness, of love over hatred, and of life over death.

The message of Easter is the radical promise of new beginnings. It is the enduring truth that no matter how deep the night, the morning always comes.

This year, let us hold fast to that hope. Let us view the promise of resurrection not just as an ancient story, but as a living blueprint for how we must move forward. The peace we so desperately seek in the world will not be born from further conflict; it will be built through the arduous, courageous work of reconciliation.

We must choose to be agents of this new beginning. We can start by fostering peace within our own homes, extending grace to our neighbors, and standing in unwavering solidarity with those who suffer unjustly. Every act of compassion, every refusal to give in to cynicism, and every bridge built across a divide is a testament to the Easter spirit.

As you celebrate today, whether in quiet reflection or joyful fellowship, may you be filled with a renewed sense of purpose. May the hope of this season mend what is broken, illuminate what is dark, and guide our world toward a lasting and meaningful peace.

Wishing you and your loved ones a blessed, peaceful, and very Happy Easter.
